Ford’s Landing Waterfront Park

Ford’s Landing Waterfront is a linear waterfront park, located along the banks of the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia. Development of the waterfront area involved excavations which uncovered a 400 foot long shipway, a marine railway, wharf bulkheads, hulls of cargo vessels, barges, and a bateau. These artifacts remain intact beneath the new townhomes and are incorporated into interpretive markers on the site. A steel structure recalls the silhouette of the site’s namesake, an old Ford Motor Company. manufacturing plant formerly on the National Register of Historic Places. 8 acre site, approximately 2,000 linear feet of boardwalk waterfront, $45 million total site construction cost (waterfront park, neighborhood streetscape and residential units).
