Scope

The MacArthur Elementary School PTA approached STUDIO39 to design an outdoor classroom and upgrade and connect existing outdoor facilities. The outdoor classroom design includes a circular concrete sitting area, with large seating boulders placed in a radial pattern around the circle. Ornamental landscaping was placed at the edges of the outdoor classroom and large trees were added for shade. A colored concrete walking track was added around the open space field connecting a new basketball court, a redesigned kindergarten pod sitting area, and the outdoor classroom to the exterior accesses from the school building. Colorful rubber surfacing was also installed under the new and old playground equipment.
