The waterfront component of Ford's Landing is the
result of a coordinated effort between the City of Alexandria's Archeologist,
Eakin/Youngentob Associates, and the design team. Excavations uncovered significant
artifacts that remain intact beneath the new townhomes and are incorporated into
the interpretive markers. A steel structure recalls the silhouette of the site's
namesake, an old Ford Motor Company manufacturing plant formerly on the National
Register of Historic Places. A connection to the Mount Vernon Trail leads to
Jones Point Park, operated by the National Park Service.
