BRAC-133 broke ground today at Mark Center. The new 1.7 million square foot office space will relocate 6,400 U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) agency employees from Arlington as part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act. Washington Headquarters Services will be the largest tenant.

As a design-build venture, the developer Duke Realty is collaborating with Clark Construction for BRAC-133. As landscape architect for the project STUDIO39 is working closely with HKS Architects, Wisnewski Blair & Associates, and Walter Phillips, Inc.

BRAC-133 has a slated completion date of September 15, 2011. Goals for the project include the attainment of LEED Silver and the development of a campus like atmosphere. Landscape architectural design includes streetscape, entry plaza, perimeter buffer, green screen, tree saves, facade trellis system, pedestrian spaces and the use of L.I.D. (Low Impact Design) practices.
