Stead Park Renovations Underway

08.08.2014

With the desire to renovate Stead Park coming to light in 2012 and public funding appropriated in Spring of last year, the August 6th groundbreaking on the project was a much anticipated event.  With an attendee list including Mayor Gray, DPR Director Shanklin, DGS Director Hanlon, the Friends of Stead Park Board and more, the groundbreaking is an inspiring result of perseverance and dedication on the parts of many.

Stead Park has often had a busy playground, but the athletic fields have left much to be desired over the past years. The Stead Park Site Improvement Project includes the renovation of the existing athletic field at the Stead Recreation Center to include artificial turf, a rubberized running track around the perimeter of the field, a splash pad water feature, a stage for community events and new landscaping and shade trees. Bio-retention areas have been included in the design to improve the storm water retention on site and to comply with the latest storm water management regulations.

Stead Park is one of many park renovation projects in the city’s pipeline.  Check out Friends of Stead Park’s website and DPR’s website for more park information and browse STUDIO39’s Parks + Trails projects for other completed park projects.
